I was downloading blurry *.jpg files taken in IR mode from one of my trailcams, so couldn’t identify the species. I know there are screech owls, great horned owls, barred owls and northern saw-whet owls around as you occasionally hear them, along with the odd sighting. I switched both trailcams, located along a trail beside a small creek, to video mode as I was thinking we had an owl hunting in that location. I originally assumed it would be a screech owl, but note the absence of ear tufts. Based on size, and confirmed by a twitcher friend, this is a northern saw-whet owl.
