Southern Flying Squirrel

Although considered common in this neck of the woods, Southern Flying Squirrels are rarely seen due to their nocturnal behaviour and diminutive stature. It was a treat to check my SD cards this evening and clearly capture video of one leaping between a couple of small black walnut trees. This was the first time I’ve observed one, although I’ve suspected they’d be around. If you slow the video down its light underside and patagium, the membrane between its front and rear legs, are visible.
