Bobcat

Bobcat, Lynx rufus, were extirpated in Ohio by 1850, however, they gradually returned as their populations recovered in neighbouring states. I first began observing bobcat in Spring 2021. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources now considers that they are common, but I question that description locally as I only get occasional videos or pictures on my trailcams. I’d reserve common to describe, say, skunk, deer, or raccoon. Below is a random selection of bobcat pictures and videos since they first appeared along my trail. The audio on the videos is worth a listen, too.
