Pair of Skunk

It’s unusual for me to observe two skunk hanging out together, but given they tend to pair-up and mate about now then this would be the time. I captured this pair on three different trailcams sauntering around the paths I keep.

Something I never appreciated is the diversity in the markings that individual skunk can have. My image was always Pepé Le Pew markings, solid black with a couple of white stripes. I’ve seen markings ranging from almost completely black with a white blotch, to overwhelmingly white, as the other videos show.

When skunk are about it can be really easy to tell due to their distinctive thiol aroma. I have, however, handled a skunk, deliberately, too! I had a neighbour that had a descented skunk that used to drape itself around his neck, he’d walk around with it. It was very much cat-like, affectionate, and highly curious. I always enjoy seeing them wandering around.
